Thanks for the detailed answer. Lack of EHR compatibility is a massive problem that undoubtedly had led to preventable deaths. I really wish Google Health had succeeded and evolved back in the day and perhaps the major players could have saved us all from this. I am board President for a large health center network. Some of the hospitals that work with us have separate EHRs for various departments - and even within one hospital, the systems can�t talk to each other.
Fax machines have a failure rate of about 8%. I would guess that Fax failures are even more common in healthcare due to the size of the files.
Some systems generate access codes that arrive via fax that you can use to look up EHR data. These codes are almost always expired and even if they�re not, you then have to navigate a system that you�re probably unfamiliar with they also has a lot of features disabled.
Lastly, a lot of these systems are written in PHP, some healthcare facilities are still running programs like Windows Vista to accommodate old code. of course running on unsecured software like that requires a massive IT team and intense firewalls.

I am currently developing a SME(Subject Matter Expertise) system for understanding the managment of the endocannabinoid system using THC and CBD via marijuana products. This understanding is to be applied to health aspects of sleep, metabolism, and cognition.
